José Miguel was born in Medellin Colombia but has lived most of his life in Bogota. He graduated from Business School and went directly into advertising as a trainee in Leo Burnett. Just 4 years later he was appointed VP General Creative Director. He held that job for 6 years and in the process helped make Leo Burnett the most creative agency in the market at the time.
In 1996 he founded his agency, SokoloffSamperPolarMora (SSPM) with 3 partners. It went on to become a leading force of creativity in Colombia. The agency joined Lowe and Partners in 1998, and changed the name to Lowe/SSP3.
José Miguel is recognized as one of the leading Latin American creatives and agency leaders. He and his agency have won awards at every significant show in our industry. More recently in the past 3 years José Miguel won the only D&AD Black Pencil Awarded in 2012 and Latin America's first. He also won over 7 Lions including a Titanium Lion, the UK IPA Effectiveness Grand Prix, the Jay Chiat awards Grand Prix among others.
In 2013, Lowe SSP3 was awarded Advertising Age’s International Agency of the Year, the first time a Colombian agency has won this accolade.
He has been a juror in all major local awards and internationally at Cannes, San Sebastián, Fiap, Clio, New York Festivals, el Ojo de Iberoamérica, Caribe, Wave etc. In 2013 was a Juror on the Titanium Cannes Lions panel and President of the Promo and Direct Jury at Spikes Asia.
